How we do it.
The Web Environment in 2009:
For users, the web is about the inter-connectivity and interactivity of content and communication. It is THIS connection of content to social interaction that has become the currency of the Internet. At the same time, the web has evolved to include a set of easy-to-use tools for otherwise complex tasks. Today we can implement CMS, calendars and ecommerce in ways that make them useful at the click of a button. These two trends combined embody an order of magnitude improvement in User Experience that our clients can take advantage of and leverage to their benefit. In other words, DESIGN about TOWN will ensure that your new site is connected to the rest of the social web, and that the best of today’s online tools are used to make management of the site easy.
How DESIGN about TOWN thrives in this Environment:
In this environment, where User Experience is paramount, DESIGN about TOWN is uniquely positioned to design and build online properties.
As a creative agency, we take a holistic approach to website design. We employ a reciprocal design paradigm that begins and ends with user experience. This defined user experience flows into the visual design and layout, which in turn defines the tools used and code utilized in building the site. The tools deployed in step three, such as calendars, in turn directly impact the users experience.
We see that there are two core user bases for the client’s website. First, users who will be coming to the site in search of information, to register for an event or take some other defined action. Second, and just as important, the administrators in the client’s office who will be tasked with updating content, processing orders and maintenance.
Utilizing DESIGN about TOWN’s reciprocal design paradigm, both of these user personae will be taken into account when designing and building new websites.
Our goal is to be our clients’ partner throughout the entire creative and development process. No secrets. No surprises. That’s our word.
Our Process in a Nutshell:
Phase 1 | Orientation, Research and Assessment
Here is where we kick-off. We determine with the client: Needs, objectives, message, goal, target audience, etc. We ask a lot of questions, and we listen. This will apply to both branding and website.
At this stage, for the website, we evaluate organization of elements overall, different categories, navigation, user flow and user action; we establish communication objectives and call to action; discuss third party applications, services, plugins, etc.; and establish design image considerations.
These evaluations will result in: Site Map, Website Objectives and Design Criteria
Phase 2 | Design
Here’s where the real fun begins. In this phase of the project DESIGN about TOWN will present different brand design concepts for evaluation.
These concepts will be applied to different pieces that will illustrate the nature of each presented system. On the website side, we will wireframe and conceptualize this cohesive design system, where all components will work together to enhance the visual and user experience.
Phase 3 | Refinement
After a design direction is selected, we will define the design system making it work as a whole. We will implement all branding and design elements to all pieces and website pages as appropriate. Once you approve it, we move on to production and development.
Phase 4 | Development
In this phase of the project DESIGN about TOWN will make it all come real. We will deliver all needed files for pre-press. And we will turn the approved design into a fully functional website, built on a content management system, and take it all the way to launch. The basic content for the site will be populated in this phase, and links formatted based on supplied content. Third party applications, embeds, plugins, registration links, and services will also be installed during this phase.
If you have additional questions or would like more details on these phases, feel free to give us a call. We love talking about this! 415-205-8488
